FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

• GENERAL LEE AVIATION •

Where are you located?

We are located at the Lacombe Airport (CEG3), in Alberta. You can find our school along the northwest side of the airport by following Brownstone Road north off 63rd avenue.

Are you accepting new students?

Yes, we are! We have both aircraft and instructors available for you to start your journey!

How can I figure out if flying is for me?

It’s simple! Book a discovery flight with us! During this flight an instructor will show you what to expect during flight training. You will even get to feel the controls of the plane.

Do I have to pay for my entire course up front?

No. The beauty of our flight school is that we understand everyone is in different financial positions. We offer students the ability to pay as you go. This means that you are only charged per individual lesson and can complete the program at a pace that does not cause you financial stress.

I want to get my Private Pilot’s License (PPL) but do not want to buy a plane, what do I do?

Aircraft ownership comes with a lot of expenses such as maintenance, hangar rental, and insurance that not everyone is prepared to pay for. We understand this and have created a cost effective rental program for you to enjoy aviation without the added expenses of aircraft ownership. Through this program anyone with a valid Canadian PPL and currency can rent the aircraft for personal flying. Please contact our school for rates and more information.

Can I add ratings to my existing PPL through your school?

Absolutely! We currently offer night, instrument, VFR OTT Ratings and will soon be offering tailwheel checkouts as well as Multi Engine Ratings + Group 1 IFR.

I started my license with another school, can I continue my training with your school?

When switching to us, our instructors will carefully read through your pilot training record (PTR) to see what training exercises have been completed so that there is no doubling up. Our instructors may request to see you perform the exercises to ensure you are up to the Transport Canada Standard.

What are the job prospects for a Commercial Pilot?

As a Commercial Pilot License (CPL) holder, you will be legally able to act as a pilot for hire.

Opportunities such as airline pilot, low-level utility, agriculture, firefighting, air ambulance, corporate, skydive, cargo, pipeline patrol and even a charter are possibilities. Further expansion on this license may be needed for various levels of employment. However, the CPL does provide the opportunity to pick multiple different sectors and have multiple career paths within the journey as a commercial pilot.

I would like to go on a scenic flight, what are the restrictions?

Our aircraft can fit up to three passengers, so long as their combined weight is below 400lbs. This is to ensure that the aircraft can safely be operated within its weight and balance limits. There are no age restrictions; young and old can enjoy our flights. Children 2 and under are considered infants as per Transport Canada and by law must be held by an adult who is buckled into their seat.

I would like to purchase a scenic or discovery flight for a friend, how can I do this?

We offer gift certificates for both discovery flights and scenic tours. Please contact us or stop by the school for more information.

What is your $75 scenic flight special?

During our home-based events in Lacombe, we will take you over top of our beautiful city.  Three passengers (with combined weight below 400lbs) can come up with us for a flight and experience the city from a bird’s eye view.
